There was a study taken by the researchers at Baylor and Harvard University which has shown that people who often consume instant noodles have a great risk of developing metabolic changes which can lead to heart disease and

stroke. Ramen noodles contain tertiary-butyl hydroquinone or TBHQ, a substance derived from petroleum industry and which is used as an additive in processed foods. This additive is not good for your stomach and for your health in general.

The Journal of Nutrition published a recent study in which women from South Korea who consumed high amounts of instant noodles were more susceptible to develop metabolic syndrome, regardless of their diet and lifestyle. Women with metabolic syndrome were at higher risk of increased blood sugar and blood pressure levels, which can lead to diabetes, stroke and heart disease.

Even though instant noodles are practical and easy to cook, they expose people to metabolic syndrome because they high amounts of glycemic loads, sodium, and saturated fats which are not good for people`s health, according to Hyun Shin, co=author of the study and Harvard School of Public Health`s doctoral candidate. They analyzed 11,00 adults with age from 19 to 64 on the base of their diet habits and categorized them in groups of those who ate fast food and those who do not, and the frequency in which they ate instant noodles. The accent was put on those who lived in South Korea because they have the highest number of people who frequently consume instant noodles when compared to other people from round the world. The results showed that people who consumed instant noodles had heart problems and obesity. The US were ranked 6th in terms of instant noodle sales based on the World Instant Noodle Association where the US bought 4,300 billion units of instant noodles and were placed behind India, China, Japan, Vietnam and Indonesia, and just a spot above South Korea.
