Eat healthy during the treatment
Chemotherapy and other cancer treatments can affect your body. So, healthy diet can help you feel better and recover faster. It is important to avoid any extreme diets during the cancer treatment, which are poor in all the nutrients. Instead of that, focus on a balanced diet, and have the following foods on the menu:
-Bread, baked goods and whole wheat products
-100% fruit juices
-Half of your plate to be full with fruits and vegetables
-Eat carrots, walnuts and fresh and dry fruits
-Moderate consumption of sweets because during the treatment the blood sugar level may increase
-Moderate meat consumption, more fish and seafood
-Eat even when you’re not hungry
Loss of appetite is the most common side effect of cancer treatments. As a result of some treatments it can happen the food to have no taste at all. Even though you have no appetite it’s important to enter the proper food. Here’s what you need to do:
-Choose food rich in calories, full with nutrients, such as avocado, nuts, beans etc.
-Eat smaller meals during the whole day
-Don’t wait to get hungry, instead eat in a precisely determined time.
Supplements and food additives
Once you decide to take food additives, make sure you consult with your oncologist. Some herbal products and food additives shouldn’t be combined with the treatment. Food supplements can be recommended to patients that don’t enter nutrients through their food. However, they should be prescribed by the doctor, because high quantities of these supplements can be harmful. If you eat healthy food, and enter all the vitamin and minerals needs, you don’t need any supplements.
Will I be able to go to work during the treatment?
The answer to this question depends on the type of the treatment, the cancer type, from your overall health, and type of work that you do. Will you be able to work mostly depends on you: how you’re feeling during the treatment. If you aren’t experiencing any problems, you can continue with your normal activities.
Can I work out during the treatment?
For cancer patients it is recommended to be physically active in time of the treatment. Exercising has a positive effect on the body weight, overall condition, muscle strength, flexibility and the quality of life. The intensity of the exercises depends on the overall health of the patient. Newest medical suggestion is that cancer patient start practicing yoga.
