After Losing Her Husband And Mom, Woman Turned To Fitness To Beat Depression
After she lost her husband and mom within 2 years, Justine McCabe was devastated. She turned to food and gained over 100 pounds, and, after months of depression, she decided to visit a grief counselor in
Justine started going to the gym on April 1st, 2015 weighing 285 pounds. She started exercising on the elliptical for an hour every day and constantly pushed herself to the limit. “There were a few times I cried on that elliptical,” she told TODAY in an interview. She took pictures every day and sent it to her friends so they can track her progress, and about a month later, she was 30 pounds lighter!
She intensified her workouts in the coming months and started eating a healthy diet, and six months later she lost another 75 pounds, which encouraged her to sign up for things she couldn’t do before. She tried everything – from rock climbing to bungee jumping, sky diving and snorkeling – accepting this extreme lifestyle slowly brought happiness back in her life.
Justine hired a personal trainer last fall and managed to lose 49 pounds while building her muscles at the same time. She still plans to lose 20 pounds more to improve her agility, and her Instagram is full of pictures of her progress which serves as an inspiration to more than 60 000 people. “A little ‘secret’ I’ve come to realize. It’s NOT about losing the weight. It’s about truly transforming your life,” one caption reads. “Take risks. Do the work. Gain self-love and respect yourself to make better life choices. The time is now, our tomorrow is not promised.” Truly words to live by!
